WEEK #1 - Post 2 of 2
Being present, aware and mindful when eating is really important. Many people, myself included at times, fail to do this. It's not because we made a conscious decision not to do it; it's because we don't think it's important enough to make an intentional commitment to doing so. Each moment matters, even when eating, especially when eating.
Each Moment Is All We Need, Not More.
Here are a FIVE really important reasons why you should be mindful when eating:
WEEK #1 - Post 1 of 2
We begin the 12 Pillars of Health with Being Mindful. When we are mindful, we are aware of the realities in this world and our ourselves. This may seem complicated, but, if we turn to St. Theres' simple explanation, we can better understand what it means to be present.
If I did not simply live from one moment to the next, it would be impossible for me to keep my patience. I can see only the present, I forget the past and I take good care not to think about the future. We get discouraged and feel despair because we brood about the past and the future. It is such folly to pass one’s time fretting,
Paying attention to the present moment without judgement, critisizm or anxiety is diffiuclt for most of us, myself included. This is why we begin the 12 Pillars of Health with being mindful. Being present and accepting of our health, as it stands right now, allows us to leave the past behind us, to concern ourselves only with the decisions made right here and now, in this moment, and not to get caught up in the decision to be made two hours, two weeks or two month from now.
So, your first assignment this week is to access where your health is today. Not where is was last year or where you want it to be next year. This is not meant to cause any concern or worry, nor is it meant to find fault with your decision making in the past. Believe it or not, viewing this assessment as just the starting point of a new journey will free you from the emotional connection to your decisions in the past. It doesn't matter how or why your health is where it is today. It just is and freeing yourself from this emotional connection will make your happier and more likely to reach your health goals.
For example, let me tell you a little more about me. Several years back, I struggled with low back pain. Over time, the pain increased and eventually I decided to haves surgery three years ago. For a variety of reasons, surgey wasn't the solution and left me with more pain, no feeling in my left foot, and scar tissue causing limited movement in my right hip.
Years of worry and anxiety led to more pain. I could not lay on my back or side for more than an hour or two, so sleep deprivation added insult to injury; and, all of this was followed up with a hysterectomy weight gain of 20-25 pounds, and, well, you guess it, I was a mess!
I worried and debated whether I should have had the surgey. Digging in the past did me no good. I was frustrated with the lack of movement because, I was, key word WAS, a runner, attended studio activities 3-4x per week, and tackled the stairs at a local park. I WAS really active. But, what I used to do, was not helping me now. Neither was focusing on it. Or fretting about it.
Eventually, I accepted this is my body now, right here today; and, this moment was here to teach me something about myself. Maybe something so big I needed to be sidelined for several years in order to really receive it. Additionally, I accepted pain as nothing more than my teacher. It no longer defined me, paralyzed me, or restrained me. My first lesson was to learn that it was me all along, not my pain, but me. I was holding myself back. I placed the limits on myself. I let the pain be a negative rather than a positive in my journey.
Now, my journey through back pain is a blog series in itself, so we'll hold that for another time. I share this story to make a point. I still have some pain, but it doesn't define me nor keep me from attaining my goals. I created a plan, much like the 12 Pillars of Health your committing to right now; and journeyed forward. I didn't look back. Are you ready to do the same? Take a few minutes to complete the basic assessment below. You can print a copy for yourself or complete the online form and send it directly to me. I will hold you accountable and be there for help when you need it most.
If you have any questions, just jump in Beauty Detangled's CLOSED facebook group, and ask away. You will have a community to lean on and direct access to me. Are you ready to leave the past and it's baggage behind you and move freely into 2019? I hope so. You are worthy of freedom. We all are!
Here's to saying adios to the past and hello to bright & healthy future!
